Product Introduction

The air-cooled chiller circulates refrigerant between one or more compressors, a liquid evaporator and outdoor finned condenser coils. Axial fans move ambient air through the condenser, eliminating the cooling tower, condenser-water pump and water-treatment loop associated with a water-cooled plant. Scroll compressors suit smaller and modular duties, while screw compressors serve larger capacities. Multiple refrigerant circuits, fan staging and optional variable-speed control improve part-load response and allow the chiller to follow changing cleanroom demand.

Key Features

Ambient-air heat rejection removes the need for a separate cooling-tower water system.

Independent refrigerant circuits provide staged capacity and reduce the impact of a single circuit shutdown.

Variable condenser fans control head pressure and reduce fan power during mild weather.

Factory hydronic options can combine pumps, expansion vessel and buffer volume on one outdoor base.

Customer Product Concerns

Air-cooled chillers are simple to site, but their capacity, noise and condensing pressure change with outdoor temperature and airflow conditions.

Hot recirculated discharge air reduces chiller capacity on a crowded roof.Adequate coil clearance and discharge orientation prevent short-circuiting of condenser air.
A large fixed compressor cycles repeatedly during low cleanroom load.Multiple circuits or variable-speed compression provide smaller capacity steps.
Low chilled-water volume causes rapid temperature swings and compressor cycling.A correctly sized buffer tank or minimum system volume stabilizes the hydronic loop.
Condenser noise reaches nearby occupied areas.Low-speed fan selection, compressor attenuation and night sound modes address acoustic limits.
