Radiation-Shielding Lead Glass Cleanroom Window
- Lead-Barium Shielding Glass
- Continuous Shielded Frame
- Clear Operator Sightline
- Flush Cleanroom Finish
Product Introduction
This window uses high-density lead-barium glass to provide transparent shielding between a cleanroom or controlled laboratory and an X-ray source. The glass overlaps lead-lined frame returns so the shield does not stop at the visible edge, and the clean side is finished with sealed stainless-steel or powder-coated trim. Glass thickness and corresponding lead equivalence are selected from the operating tube voltage and the room shielding design; the product page does not assign a universal rating to every configuration.
Key Features
Overlapping lead-lined reveals continue shielding around the perimeter rather than leaving an edge gap.
Ground and chamfered glass edges reduce handling damage during installation of the dense pane.
A flush sealed room face separates the specialist glass edge and shielding liner from routine cleaning.
Customer Product Concerns
The transparent shield must match the surrounding barrier and preserve continuous overlap at the frame while supporting a significantly heavier pane than ordinary glass.
Typical Applications
Technical Parameters
Representative Corning Med-X-type glass and cleanroom-frame ranges are shown below; the shielding schedule determines the final glass thickness.
| Core Material | High-lead and barium radiation-shielding glass with lead-lined perimeter frame |
|---|---|
| Panel Thickness | 4–20 mm lead glass; typically 75–150 mm overall frame depth |
| Effective Width | 300–1400 mm clear viewing width |
| Maximum Length | 2800 mm glass plate length where weight and shielding design permit |
| Steel Facing Thickness | 1.2–2.0 mm stainless-steel liner over project-selected lead sheet |
| Core Density | Approximately 4800 kg/m³ for lead-barium shielding glass |
| Thermal Conductivity | Approximately 0.55–0.75 W/(m·K) for dense lead glass |
| Surface Finish | Optically polished clear lead glass with brushed stainless or powder-coated flush trim |
| Joint Type | Four-side supported glazing with continuous lead overlap, resilient setting blocks and sealed cleanroom perimeter |
| Customization | Available based on the intended application and operating environment |
