Product Introduction

The combination fire and smoke damper integrates a sealed multiblade smoke-control assembly with a thermally responsive closure device in one sleeved penetration unit. During normal operation the external actuator can open, close or modulate the airfoil blades for system sequences. A smoke-control command drives the spring-return actuator toward its safety position, while the thermal release provides an independent response to elevated temperature. Blade and jamb seals restrict leakage, and end switches can report the fully open and fully closed positions.

Key Features

One sleeved assembly performs both duct-penetration fire closure and powered smoke isolation functions.

Airfoil blades reduce operating pressure drop while edge and jamb seals improve closed-position smoke control.

A spring-return actuator drives the selected safety position when control power is removed.

Thermal release and optional position switches support independent closure response and remote status monitoring.

Customer Product Concerns

Combined protection depends on correct installation at the rated opening, adequate actuator torque, intact blade seals and a control sequence that distinguishes smoke response from normal HVAC operation.

Separate fire and smoke dampers require extra duct length and two access locations.A single combination assembly consolidates thermal closure, sealed blades and actuation at one penetration.
A weak actuator cannot close the blade bank against fan pressure and seal friction. The spring-return torque is selected from damper area, blade arrangement and maximum differential pressure.
Operators cannot tell whether the damper reached its commanded safety position.Blade-linked open and closed switches provide status independent of the controller command signal.
Seal damage goes unnoticed because only actuator movement is tested.Periodic access to the blade edges and jambs allows the mechanical closure and compressible seals to be inspected together.
