01Define whether the clean-air field must move vertically downward or horizontally toward the operator side.
02Provide the work envelope, operator count, access sides and any equipment that must fit inside the protected zone.
03Confirm whether the unit will be benchtop, floor-standing, ceiling-suspended, freestanding or mobile.
04State construction, cleanability, ESD, utility, sash and process-interface requirements before model selection.

How to Select Laminar Flow Benches & Hoods

Start with the operating task and site constraints, then compare the product direction that best matches the intended use.

Buyer requirementProduct directionWhy it helps
General work at a fixed stationVertical or Horizontal Laminar Flow Clean BenchSelect the airflow direction around the product geometry, operator access and room layout.
One or two defined operator positionsSingle-Operator or Dual-Operator Clean BenchMatches the protected work width and utility access to the expected occupancy.
Frequent wiping, aseptic preparation or ESD-sensitive handlingStainless Steel, Aseptic or ESD-Safe ConfigurationUses construction and work-zone features suited to the identified cleaning or electrostatic-control need.
Use an existing table or keep the floor clearBenchtop or Ceiling-Suspended Laminar Flow HoodCreates local clean-air coverage without a complete floor-standing bench cabinet.
Cover an installed machine with open process accessLaminar Flow Canopy or Local Clean Air WorkstationPlaces a configurable downflow or local airflow footprint over the selected process.
Move the protected work zone between areasMobile Laminar Flow Hood or Mobile Laminar Flow WorkstationCombines filtered airflow with a lockable mobile frame or integrated wheeled work surface.

Solutions for Your Application

Overcome the Challenges in Your Process

A laminar flow bench or hood should be selected around the protected product, airflow path and working access. These units support non-hazardous product protection; personnel or hazardous-material containment requires a suitable containment device instead.

Room drafts disturb the clean-air field at an open working face.Select the airflow direction, sash, side panels and opening arrangement around the actual operator movement and room layout.
Tall instruments block the filter face or create weak airflow zones.Match vertical or horizontal supply and the work-zone dimensions to the installed equipment envelope.
A fixed cabinet cannot reach changing production tasks.Compare a mobile hood, mobile workstation or open-frame local clean-air station.
Cleaning chemicals or ESD-sensitive work are incompatible with a general-purpose bench.Choose stainless construction or an ESD-safe configuration based on the identified operating requirement.
A localized process needs coverage without permanent floor-mounted supports.Use a ceiling-suspended hood or freestanding canopy coordinated with the process footprint and service access.

Common Questions

Before choosing Laminar Flow Benches & Hoods

Vertical units supply filtered air downward from above the work zone, while horizontal units move air from a rear filter wall toward the open front. Product geometry, operator access and room layout determine which arrangement is more suitable.

A standard clean bench is intended for non-hazardous product protection. Work involving hazardous aerosols, potent powders or biological risk requires equipment designed for the relevant containment task.

Ceiling-suspended and canopy formats can be coordinated around an existing process footprint, subject to available structure, service access and the required airflow field.

Provide the work envelope, airflow direction, access sides, operator count, room conditions, construction material, utilities and any equipment cut-outs.
