Desiccant Air Dryer
- Twin-tower pressure swing adsorption
- -40°C reference pressure dew point
- Automatic sequencing with dew-point monitoring
Product Introduction
The Desiccant Air Dryer is a standalone heatless pressure-swing adsorption unit installed after compressed-air cooling, water separation and coalescing filtration. Wet compressed air flows upward through one activated-alumina bed while a controlled portion of the dry outlet air expands through the second tower to regenerate its desiccant. The controller then repressurizes and switches the towers to maintain continuous drying. The selected medium-flow configuration has exactly two vertical welded-steel towers, upper equalization and dry-air manifolding, a lower inlet and switching-valve assembly, two tower pressure gauges, two low-mounted exhaust silencers, one central dew-point controller and a four-point steel base. It has no refrigeration compressor, condenser grille, electric regeneration heater, blower, receiver vessel, gas-separation module or air-compression stage. The required inlet coalescing filters and outlet dust filter are separate line items rather than integrated housings.
Key Features
Heatless regeneration avoids an electric heater and regeneration blower while retaining a compact open-frame arrangement
A programmed depressurization, purge, repressurization and changeover sequence protects the active drying bed from abrupt switching
Individual tower pressure gauges make depressurization and repressurization behavior visible during operation
Two dedicated exhaust silencers reduce the sharp discharge noise produced when the regenerating tower vents to atmosphere
A dew-point-capable controller can extend the adsorption cycle when the outlet moisture load remains below the changeover threshold
Rear air connections and accessible upper and lower manifolds simplify valve, gauge and desiccant service
Activated alumina with high crush strength and low attrition limits dust generation during repeated pressure cycles
Customer Product Concerns
A refrigerated dryer normally leaves compressed air at a positive pressure dew point, which may be inadequate when piping is exposed to freezing temperatures or a moisture-sensitive process requires substantially drier air.
Typical Applications
Technical Parameters
The selected catalogue-scale identity is a floor-mounted heatless twin-tower dryer referenced to the HLA90 class: 2.5 Nm³/min capacity at a -40°C pressure dew point, 1-inch NPT air connections and an approximate 1029 mm wide by 762 mm deep by 1603 mm high package envelope. Activated alumina is the primary desiccant and dry purge air regenerates the off-line tower; no heater or blower is fitted. Actual usable flow, purge consumption, pressure loss, dew point and vessel rating depend on inlet pressure, temperature, moisture loading and the selected control mode. Separate upstream coalescing filtration and a separate downstream dust filter are required for a complete treatment train.
