Product Introduction

The cooling coil is a finned-tube heat exchanger installed in an AHU airstream to cool and, when surface temperature is below the air dew point, dehumidify supply air. Seamless copper tubes are mechanically expanded into closely spaced aluminum plate fins so the tube wall and fin collars maintain direct thermal contact. A rigid galvanized-steel casing supports the coil at the air-handler opening, while the side header distributes chilled water among the circuits. Replacement selection must reproduce the required face size, row depth, circuiting, connection arrangement and airside performance of the installed coil.

Key Features

Mechanically expanded copper tubes maintain close contact with the aluminum fin collars across the heat-transfer surface.

A galvanized flanged casing supports the fin pack and provides defined attachment points within the AHU coil section.

The vertical header groups supply, return, vent and drain interfaces on one accessible service side.

Multiple tube rows and circuit arrangements can be selected to balance cooling duty, water pressure drop and air resistance.

Customer Product Concerns

A replacement cooling coil must fit the existing AHU and reproduce its hydraulic and airside behavior without creating condensate carryover or excessive pressure loss.

A coil with the wrong face size or flange arrangement cannot seal into the existing AHU opening.Finned dimensions, casing envelope, flange orientation and mounting-hole locations are matched to the removed coil and equipment opening.
Different circuiting or connection sizes can produce poor water distribution and an unsuitable pressure drop.Tube rows, circuits, header layout and threaded connection sizes are selected together for the intended chilled-water flow.
Excessive fin density increases air resistance and can trap dirt in a hygiene-sensitive air handler.Fin spacing is chosen to balance heat-transfer area, cleanability and the available fan pressure for the actual application.
Condensate can bypass the drain pan or be carried downstream when coil velocity and installation geometry are mismatched.Coil depth, face velocity, casing drainage provisions and the adjoining drain-pan arrangement are coordinated for controlled moisture removal.
