A visible red emitter illuminates one reflective marker on the rotating part, while the adjacent receiver counts the returning light pulses and converts their repetition rate to revolutions per minute. A five-digit display, measurement hold and minimum, maximum, average and last-value recall support repeatable checks on cleanroom fans, air-handling equipment, pumps and production machinery. The recessed sensor window protects the optical elements, and a wrist lanyard helps secure the instrument during one-handed use.

Multiple reflective areas on one revolution can make the displayed RPM a multiple of the true shaft speed.Use one clean reflective marker and cover or avoid other bright surfaces within the optical spot.

Ambient light, a dirty lens or poor target contrast can cause unstable pulse detection.The visible aiming beam, recessed optical window and high-contrast silver marker help establish a clear return signal.
