The motorized volume control damper uses linked hollow airfoil blades to regulate airflow with less turbulence than formed single-skin blades at high velocity. A direct-coupled electric actuator mounts on the extended drive shaft and moves the opposed blade bank in response to an on-off, floating or proportional signal. Tip and jamb seals reduce closed-position leakage, while enclosed gears or linkage keep the mechanism synchronized. The actuator remains outside the duct for wiring, manual override and position inspection.

Automatic duct control requires adequate actuator torque, stable blade synchronization and a control signal that matches the desired fail position and modulation sequence.

An undersized actuator stalls before the sealed blades reach full closure.Blade area, differential pressure, seal friction and linkage arrangement are included in the torque selection.
Loose external crank arms introduce deadband around the commanded position.A rigid direct-coupled shaft connection reduces lost motion between the actuator and blade bank.
Uneven linkage travel leaves several blades partly open during shutdown.Geared or positively linked blades maintain synchronized rotation across the complete frame.
