The cooling-water pump uses a horizontally split cast-iron casing around a double-suction impeller. Water enters both sides of the impeller, reducing axial thrust and supporting large condenser-water flows with stable bearing loads. The upper casing half can be removed to inspect the impeller, wear rings and shaft without separating the lower casing from the main pipework.
