Columnar Activated Carbon adsorbs organic compounds and odor-causing substances from air or water passing through a packed bed. Its porous pellets retain these substances on internal surfaces, helping control solvent odors in exhaust streams and remove residual dissolved organics during wastewater polishing.
The cylindrical form creates flow passages between the pellets when loaded into an adsorption box or vessel. Diameter selection balances flow resistance and contact with the carbon, so the bed can be matched to the treatment duty and the equipment holding it.
FEATURES
A developed pore structure provides the surfaces that hold adsorbable molecules as the process stream passes through the bed.
Chemical stability and resistance to abrasion and rinsing help the pellets withstand handling and bed service.
The adsorption step does not require continuous chemical addition. Fans or pumps maintain the flow through the carbon bed.
APPLICATIONS
Treat adsorbable solvent vapors and odors from paint spraying and paint baking after separating paint mist and other particles.
Load the pellets into carbon filtration boxes to capture suitable gaseous organic contaminants and odor compounds that particle filters do not retain.
Use adsorption polishing for residual organics in chemical, coal-chemical, coking, pharmaceutical, pesticide, additive and intermediate production wastewater, with the carbon grade selected for the contaminants.
After upstream treatment, selected carbon beds can reduce adsorbable dissolved color and organic residues in dyeing, printing, papermaking and leather-processing effluent.
Residual-organic polishing can be considered for municipal and industrial-park wastewater, landfill leachate, livestock and food-service effluent, and electroplating, mining and paint wastewater after suitable pretreatment.
For flue-gas desulfurization, select the carbon grade and treatment system around the sulfur compounds, temperature and other exhaust conditions.
SELECTION
Smaller pellets provide shorter diffusion paths but create greater flow resistance. Larger pellets allow more open flow paths; match either choice to bed contact time and retaining-screen openings.
Select the coal-based or wood-based grade for the target compounds and operating conditions. Small bags support staged loading; bulk bags suit larger beds with suitable lifting equipment.
Monitor the treated outlet to identify adsorption breakthrough. Spent carbon may be suitable for professional regeneration, depending on the retained contaminants and the condition of the pellets.
FAQ
Deposits can obstruct flow and cover the carbon surface. Upstream separation helps keep the bed available for the dissolved or gaseous contaminants it is intended to adsorb.
